Step into History at Rosario Village
Perched on the stunning shores of Cascade Bay on Orcas Island, Rosario Resort offers a timeless escape where history and luxury intertwine. The resort's heart is the Moran Mansion, a 24,000-square-foot Arts and Crafts masterpiece, originally crafted by Seattle shipbuilder and former mayor Robert Moran in 1906. Built as a summer retreat, Moran's vision was to showcase the exceptional craftsmanship of the Pacific Northwest, which is reflected in the mansion’s intricate woodwork, Tiffany light fixtures, and artifacts collected from his global adventures. Moran’s personal pride—one of the world’s largest functional pipe organs—still resides in the mansion, a testament to the grandeur of his design.
Rosario’s story doesn’t end there. During the Great Depression, Moran lost much of his wealth and sold the mansion and surrounding property in 1938 to Donald Rheem, who transformed the estate into the luxurious resort it is today. Over time, Rosario has expanded to include 88 elegantly designed guestrooms and suites, spread across 30 waterfront acres, offering breathtaking views from every room. While no accommodations are in the mansion itself, guests are just steps away from the Marina, Event Center, and Rosario Grill restaurant, where you can enjoy waterfront dining.
While the historic Moran Mansion is undergoing an extended refurbishment—including the restoration of all swimming pools—these areas are temporarily closed as part of our dedication to preserving and enriching the property's original grandeur. The meticulous restoration will unveil breathtaking beauty and timeless elegance, enhancing the mansion's intricate details while safeguarding its rich heritage.
In the meantime, guests can still soak in the spectacular water views and experience Rosario Village's perfect blend of history, nature, and luxury.
