SJIMA ARTISTS' REGISTRY

SJIMA Artists’ Registry

Inspired by soaring snow-capped mountains, lush glens and valleys of conifers, ancient volcanic and granite rock formations, clear emerald seas along with the cultures of indigenous peoples, visual artists have been drawn to the San Juan Islands for decades in order to exercise their creative muse in this serene and beautiful land. The following pages evidence the diverse and eclectic artwork of the artists that have made these islands their home.

The SJIMA online Artists’ Registry was developed by Yvonne Buijs-Mancuso, a local artist on San Juan Island. It was her mission to bring more exposure for island artists to visitors traveling to the San Juan Islands, as well as to create a pathway for the local community to become aware of the special contributions made by the islands artists’ community.

Launched in 2010, The SJIMA Artists’ Registry is a research vehicle offered through the Museum to assist those interested in locating artists residing throughout San Juan County, Washington. It also gives visitors the opportunity for a delightful and educational experience when visiting artists in their studios, as well as at the annual Artists’ Registry exhibit held each year in the winter months. This popular exhibit of islands artist’s artwork draws crowds from all the islands as well from abroad.
