How do we create meaning in our art? How do we build our own system of symbols, images, and themes to use to explore ideas and tell stories?
In this three-part class we will explore the process of creating a personal visual language in our art practices. This is a class appropriate for artists of any discipline - it is for anyone interested in building their own visual language to strengthen their voice in their work.
We will look at various artist's work who have a strong visual language, as well as dive into some art history and symbol systems to draw inspiration for our work.
We will experiment with various mediums, looking at ways to create symbolism and meaning in 2D and 3D.
This is an open-ended process-focused class designed to get artists of all mediums inspired and grounded in a language of their own.
This class is co-taught by Alchemy staff. Each session will have a different teacher whose relationship to creating visual language is unique to their art practice, giving students a wide variety of points of view.
Class takes place on 3 Fridays from 5:00-7:30 pm. Dates: 4/4, 4/11, 4/18
This class is held in the dome on the AAC campus. Directions and parking information will be included in your confirmation email.
Registration: Please register early if you are able, as it helps us to ensure that classes meet their minimums in order to run! If you register more than three weeks before this class begins, a 20% early bird discount will automatically be applied to your ticket at checkout.
A Note on Ticket Pricing: We are experimenting with offering sliding-scale tickets in order to keep our classes accessible to as many community members as possible. There are three price tiers. Sustaining tickets helps us continue to invest in programming. Full-price tickets cover the costs associated with running classes. Accessibility tickets are priced below what it costs for us to run a class. If the cost of a full-price ticket is a hardship, we encourage you to purchase a sliding-scale ticket. If you can pay the full price or sustaining price, please choose that option so we can keep providing arts programming to the community.
Tuition Assistance: Tuition assistance is available for Alchemy classes and workshops if finances are a barrier. Apply for tuition assistance here.
